Sarracenia, commonly known as American pitcher plants, are a genus of carnivorous plants native to North America. They are known for their unique, pitcher-shaped leaves that trap insects., thrives in full sun and requires a moist, acidic soil. It prefers a well-draining mixture of sphagnum peat moss and perlite or sand, and should not be fertilized. During the growing season, it needs 6+ hours of direct sunlight daily, and should be watered with mineral-free water like distilled or rainwater.

They lure prey with nectar and bright colors, then trap them inside the pitcher-shaped leaves with slippery surfaces, hairs, and sometimes, a poisonous secretion. Once trapped, the insect is digested by enzymes and microorganisms in the pitcher.

Light:
Outdoor: Provide at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily during the growing 
Indoor: If growing indoors, use grow lights to supplement natural light, especially during winter dormancy.

Water: Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged.
