Ficus Petiolaris, commonly known as the rock fig, is a drought-deciduous tree native to the arid rocky cliffs of Mexico's Baja California peninsula. It is known for its adaptations to desert life, including a swollen trunk (caudex) and roots that can grow over rocks to seek out water. Though it can grow into a large tree in the wild, its compact size and interesting caudiciform growth make it a popular and highly-prized specimen for bonsai and container gardening.

Light: Bright indirect lighting.

Water: Once established, they are drought-tolerant and can often survive on natural rainfall. Young trees will require more frequent watering to establish a strong root system.

Fertilizer:  Does not have high fertilizer requirements. Feed with a small amount of balanced fertilizer once a year in the spring.

Toxicity: Generally non-toxic
